What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle but deep technique that uses light pressure on the skull and spine to relieve pain and tension in the body and create balance in the nervous system. When you are born, the plates of the skull are not fused together, but with time the sutures between the plates gain structure and “fuse” together. While these plates do not move much, they do still have the ability to slightly shift even in adulthood. When there are restrictions in this movement, it prevents the flow of cerebrospinal fluid which is responsible for delivering nutrients, protecting and cushioning the brain and spine, removing waste and toxins, and maintaining homeostasis in the central nervous system.
Care for your body, mind, and soul
Massage therapy has been shown to be an effective, natural tool to improve sleep, pain, and the effects of stress. While the treatment benefits the muscles, fascia, and soft tissue of the body, it is also a direct line of communication with the nervous system which regulates all of the bodies functions. By creating a space in which the body can come out of its sympathetic nervous response (fight or flight) and into its parasympathetic system (rest & digest), we will be practicing the skill of downshifting, benefiting you well beyond the massage table. Using hands on techniques and a blend of modalities, we will tailor your massage to create a holistic approach to meet your goals.
Abigail Bishop, LMT #11569
Abigail graduated from the 650 hour program at The Center for Massage and Natural Health in Asheville, NC, in 2016. She is an advocate for holistic health, and believes in treating the mind and body as a whole. She firmly believes that it is not up to a “healer” or outside expert to create effective change, but that our bodies are powerful self-healing organisms that are constantly working to create homeostasis. She believes in the power of massage to assist in that process and that it has incredible pain and stress relieving potential.
Abigail has further training in prenatal, postpartum, lymphatic drainage, and craniosacral therapy. She also has a special interest in the perinatal period, from preconception to postpartum and beyond.
As a mother and outdoor lover, she understands the importance of optimal health in order to live your best life. When she’s not massaging, she enjoys reading and spending time in nature. She lives in Spartanburg, SC, with her husband, daughter and two cats.

Prenatal massage has been shown to have positive effects on aches and pain during pregnancy, is effective for relieving stress, and improved sleep quality. By practicing relaxing during pregnancy, tapping into that state during labor and birth is much easier.
Postpartum massage has been used for millennia to nourish the new mother and reintegrate her with her body post-pregnancy. This is a time for warming, nourishing touch and gentle release.

This light touch therapy has profound benefits for pain relief, nervous system regulation, and soft tissue therapy. Following tension patterns in the body, craniosacral therapy uses gentle touch and movement to release restrictions and build greater nervous system/brain/body integration.
-
Craniosacral therapy has been shown to be an effective first line treatment for restrictions in babies as young as a day old. It has been extremely effective in treating tongue ties (before or after revisions), chronic ear and sinus infections, headaches, coordination issues, and more.
